The Evolution of Skincare: From Baby Boomers to Gen A

Did skincare exist 50 years ago? Who is the Sherlock Holmes of wrinkles? Who has dozens of expired skincare products they refuse to throw away? 🧐 GRWM, #sephorakids, and stories from boomers’ skincare crypts!

«Okay boomer.»

Baby boomers, now in their 60s+, are finally admitting that they probably should have used more sunscreen when they were young. That doesn’t stop them from being proud of their wrinkles though.

When they were young, skincare wasn’t a well known concept, and they certainly aren’t going to start a skincare routine now! They believe “nature knows what it’s doing” and often lack the motivation to begin one at this age.

«Skin… what?»

Happiness lies in the simplest of  things,” Gen X will tell you, and they apply the same philosophy to skincare. If you open their bathroom cabinet (yes, that’s their boudoir), you’ll likely find over 50 different products, many of which expired before you were even born.

No, they don’t use them; they just keep them for emergencies. Their skincare routine typically involves just a few products: Τap water, day cream, and perhaps a night cream. Occasionally, you’ll see them using hand cream on their face because “a little extra hydration shouldn’t go to waste.

«Do you think I’m cool?»

Millennials invented the modern skincare routine, promoted it on social media, and have been religiously following it ever since. You’ll see them buying far more products than they need while googling phrases like “When is the right time to start retinol?” Some are already queuing up for their first botox!

You could call millennials the Sherlock Holmes of wrinkles. With their magnifying glass, they can spot even the tiniest wrinkle making its first appearance. But it doesn’t bother them, as they know how to restore their skin to the age they forever feel: 22.

«GRWM»

The phrase “Let’s do a Get Ready With Me” rightfully belongs to Gen Z. They love skincare, self-love, glow up, and won’t sleep until they’ve completed their night skincare routine.

They are well-informed, gathering knowledge from social media and their surroundings. They want the best for their skin and the environment, so they seek out products with natural ingredients that are both gentle and effective. You’ll see them trying countless products until they find the perfect one, but even then, they never stop experimenting. That’s why GRWMs will be featured on our screens for a long time to come.

Gen A has taken skincare to a whole new level. In their boudoir, you’ll find cleansers, creams, serums, toners, sprays, mists, exfoliators, and everything else beauty-related you can imagine. They love to take care of their skin and chat with friends about the latest trends, discovering the world of beauty.

Sometimes, they use products that aren’t quite suitable for their skin yet, but if you talk to them, they might know more than you do. So, put that “judgemental finger” down, and approach with caution! Also, try to be well-informed so they don’t label you a “boomer”.

Skincare is for everybody!

Whatever your age, you can start your skincare routine today, even if you never had one. Whether you think you’re too old for it or you believe you don’t need one yet, remember: “One day or day one,” as they say on TikTok! It’s no coincidence that almost every young person loves to take care of their skin, as skincare has become a symbol of self-love.

The important thing is to understand what your skin needs and provide it. That’s why at Young Carpo, we’ve created skincare products dedicated entirely to young skin and its needs. We invest in pure ingredients abundant in the Mediterranean to give your skin its own Mediterranean nourishment!
